About Dr. Sanjay De Bakshi

Dr De Bakshi trained at the Medical College Calcutta, completing his MBBS and MS in General surgery from this institute. He subsequently went to the UK where he completed his FRCS(England). He worked at the King George Hospital, the Barking Hospital, with the Hepato-Biliary Unit at The Royal Postgraduate Institute at the Hammersmith Hospital, UK,the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, Fulham UK and with the Liver Transplant Unit at Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge UK.

He subsequently came back to Kolakta and started working at the Cancer Centre and Welfare Home, Thakurpukur and the Aurobindo Seva Kendra. He was one of the team, instrumental in setting up the Gastroenterological Surgical Unit of Oncology at the Cancer Centre and Welfare Home, Thakurpukur.

In the past he was attached to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (C.M.R.I.), Kolkata, Presently he is attached to the A.M.R.I. Kolkata as HOD and consultant in the department of Surgical Gastroenterology. He is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and organised a very successful examination for the Edinburgh College for the first time in Kolakta in January 2010. He was also conferred the Fellowship of the Edinburgh College without examination in 2001, the second surgeon from Eastern India to be awarded this honour. He has co-authored a chapter in Bailey & Love’s “Short Practice of Surgery” (25th edition), a book that is considered to be an international surgical bible.

Dr De Bakshi interests are in Surgical Gastroenterology and General Surgery.

Dr De Bakshi also has an avid interest in reading, travel, photography and music.
